The Last Door and Poe

The Last Door is a game series about a man looking for his past in Victorian England. It’s very Lovecraftian in setting and world-building, but there are Poe themes at the center of the piece.

SPOILERS AHEAD: The main character, Jeremiah, went to a boarding school as a student. There was a secret club in the school where participants tried to learn the truth of this world. Through their experimentation with magic, they learned that the world as they know it was just an ash in the vast universe. Only a thin veil protects them from the real world. Outside the veil, there are truths and powers too terrifying to understand. The veil is protected by, wait for it, a raven. That’s the Poe connection. The raven guards the veil and stops people from going outside the veil, as it’s also the only protection of the world from being invaded by unimaginable powers. In the latter part of the game, the raven appeared a lot, and the eye of the raven was a major theme. The eye signifies being watched, highlighting Jeremiah’s decision to learn the truth.
